A Siamese Prince Krom Phra Ratchawang Bowon Wichaichan was well known as a member of the Chakri Dynasty. Wichaichan was appointed the Front Palace and Vice King of Siam in 1868 to succeed his father King Pinklao during the reign of his cousin King Chulalongkorn (Rama V). The office of Front Palace remained powerful and thriving during his tenure.
Wichaichan was born to King Pinklao and Princess Aim Sae-ong. The prince got access to a modern education, the English language and modern sciences and had talent to be an extremely skillful engineer. He became the commander of the Front Palace's naval forces as well.
Wichaichan was married to Prik-lek Na Nagara, and had 28 sons and daughters in total with various consorts. He also had a close friendship with the British Consul-General to Siam: Thomas George Knox.
