Cambodian painter and artist Vann Nath is the artist who received Hammett Award which is very prestigious for writers and he was the eight person to win that award. In addition to an artist, he is also a human rights activist who suffered during the Khmer Rouge.

His exact birth's date is not known and he was educated at Wat Sopee pagoda as a child. He had to work in a factory when he was fourteen or fifteen.
