Best-known as an American singer-songwriter, pianist and composer, Tori Amos is a classically trained musician and has a mezzo-soprano vocal range. Notably, she has received eight Grammy nominations. In 2011, she released her first classical music album, Night of Hunters. In 2012, she announced the formation of her own record label Transmission Galactic. And the latest is releasing the 2-CD set The Light Princess: Original Cast Recording on October 9, 2015.
Tori Amos was the youngest person ever to have been admitted when she won a full scholarship to the Peabody Institute at Johns Hopkins University, with composing instrumental pieces on piano at age five. At age seven, she was expelled for insisting on playing by ear ,in her own words, and because of her interest in popular rock music. Before achieving her breakthrough as a solo artist at the forefront of a number of female singer-songwriters in the early 1990s, Amos served as the lead singer of short-lived 1980s pop group Y Kant Tori Read.
