As one of the four pop divas of Vietnam, singer and songwriter Thanh Lam came to the attention of a mainstream audience with her voice full of energy and skillful as well unique performance. She became the pioneer to hold the first liveshow, making contribution to music industry in Vietnam. Her hit songs include Hoa Sua, Chia Tay Hoang Hon, etc. More notably, she has a number of huge accomplishments to her name such as becoming the first singer awarded The Accomplished Artist by the State in 2007 in addition to Golden Voice Award at Asean Golden Voice Festival 1998 and Best-loved singer at Lahavan – Cuba music festival in 1989.
As a daughter of music composer Thuan Yen and traditional music artist Thanh Huong, she early had an opportunity to get access to music. At the age of nine, she learned how to play Dan Ty Ba, a Vietnamese traditional music instrument and studied Vocal Music. At the beginning of her career, she accompanied with the Phuong Dong band. She also worked with the Vietnamese-Danish jazz musician Niels Lan Doky on several music projects, especially the Vong Nguyet show at the Roskilde Festivalin 2006 and 2007.
Thanh Lam happily married to Quoc Trung a composer in 1994 but ended in 2004. They have three children, one of whom Nguyen Dang Quang has become one of 10 young faces of Vietnam in 2014 with many international prizes for his talent in piano.
