A television personality and mentor, music and television producer, Simon Phillip Cowell is most regarded as a judge on the English TV talent competition series Pop Idol, The X Factor and Britain's Got Talent and especially the American TV singing competition shows American Idol for his controversial comments and scathing critical remarks. He was named one of the 100 most influential people in the world by American magazine Time in 2004 & 2010 and also ranked 41 in a list of 50 people who matter in 2010 by British magazine New Statement in addition to #10 in the list of the 60 Nastiest Villains of all time by TV Guide in 2013.
Cowell was born to Julie Brett, a former ballet dancer and socialite, and Eric Selig Phillip Cowell, an estate agent developer and music industry executive. Prior to his fame, he took a few menial jobs such as working as a runner Stanley Kubrick’s movie The Shining. With his passion in music and television, he was put on a new track, becoming an assistant to an A & R executive in 1979.
