Being the highest-selling Colombian artist of all time, Colombian pop singer and dancer Shakira is best known for hits like Whenever and Hips Don't Lie. All of her own materials were written by herself or co-written, which earned her a reputation as one of Latin music's most ambitiously poetic lyricists. Having a quirky poetic sense and a sexy video image built on her hip-shaking belly dance moves, Shakira soon became an instant pop sensation for her first English material release in late 2011. Two Grammy Awards, seven Latin Grammy Awards and 12 Billboard Latin Music Awards are considered as her most prestigious awards throughout her career.
Born to her mother, a native Colombian and her father of Lebanese descent, Shakira had chances to soak up music from both cultures as a child. She showed her talent of composing music by writing her first song at the age of 8, winning competitions at 10, and started learning guitar at 11. Her debut album Magia in 1991, including songs written by Shakira over the past five or six years and the second album Peligro made her name in her country.
After 11–year romantic relationship as a married couple with Argentinian lawyer Antonio de la Rúa since 2000, ended in October 2011, Shakira is currently romantically linked to Spanish football player Gerard Piqué. The couple has two son named Milan Piqué i Mebarak born in 2013 and Sasha Piqué i Mebarak born in 2015.
