Well-known as one of the most influential Latin artists of all time, Queen of Tejano Music Selena Quintanilla came to prominence as an award-winning recording artist in the Latin music scene for albums including Amor Prohibido and Selena Live. Selena Quintanilla released her recording debut in the 80’. Throughout her career, she won lots of awards including both Best Female Vocalist of the Year and Performer of the Year at the 1987 Tejano Music Awards. With album Ven Conmigo in 1990, sold more than 500,000 copies, she became the first female Tejano artist to achieve gold status by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA).
Born to Marcella Ofelia Quintanilla and Abraham Quintanilla, Jr., a former Mexican American musician, Selena Quintanilla started performing from an early age as the lead singer in her family’s band Selena Y Los Dinos, playing at weddings and clubs in their native Texas at the age of 10. Selena first released her album titled Mis Primeras Grabaciones in 1995.
Selena Quintanilla had a romantic relationship with Chris Pérez, shortly afterwards got married and became a couple regardless of her family’s objection.
