Being one of the most prosperous of a new breed of entrepreneurs in black music, Sean Diddy Combs (briefly known as Puff Daddy, Diddy, and P. Diddy) has achieved more than any other in the history of black popular music, best known as a hugely successful hip-hop/rap artist. Although criticized for his sample-heavy sound, he hit a new height for his debut album No Way Out in 1997, shot straight to number one and was not only certified seven times platinum but became the Grammy Award winner for Best Rap Album also, followed by successful albums such as Forever, The Saga Continues (2001). Sean Diddy Combs has also achieved success as being an astute entrepreneur and music producer (producer of MTV’s Making The Band), excelling in business for launching his music production company Bad Boy Entertainment in 1993, which brought him multi-million dollars and made him one of the leading figures, most powerful players in American music. For his works, Sean Combs has earned three Grammy Awards and two MTV Video Music Awards together with non-music business success including the clothing lines Sean John and Sean by Sean Combs, earned him a Council of Fashion Designers of America award.
Sean Combs was born in a public housing project in Harlem, New York City, to his mother – a teacher and model Janice, and his father Melvin Earl Combs, an associate of convicted New York drug dealer Frank Lucas. He was raised by his mother after father’s death. With his natural competence to spot and develop talent, he got the internship at Uptown Records, which later turned into a job as a talent director and became an ambitious A&R executive. Before founding his own company Bad Boy Entertainment, he worked as a remixer.
Being a father of 6 children, Sean has been romantically linked to stylist Misa Hylton-Brim with his first child Justin before having twin girls, D'Lila Star and Jessie James Combs and a son with Kim Porter. The couple had an on-again, off-again relationship from 1994 to 2007. He also dated Sarah Chapman, delivered his daughter named Chance Chapman Combs.
