Prayuth Chan-ocha, following the 2014 Thai coup d'état after resigning from his position as Chairman of the Board of Post Publishing Plc. just 2 days earlier. Among all ministers, Pridiyathorn was reported to be the wealthies in the cabinet.
He is a son of HSH Prince Priditheppong Devakula, therefore a grandson of HRH Prince Devawongse Varopakarn, and a great-grandson of HM King Rama IV. (Mongkut). Considering his distant royal descent, Pridiyathorn is refered to as Mom Ui (Lord Ui) by national media. During young years, he was the school icon for the student who rarely came second in exams. At the Wharton Business School, University of Pennsylvania, he gained an MBA in 1970 before working for the Thai Farmers Bank from 1971 to 1990, becoming Senior Executive Vice President.
