Nguyen Van Linh was a Vietnamese revolutionary and politician. From 1986 to 1991 he was the general secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam and a political leader of the Vietcong during the American War. He was often touted as the Vietnamese Gorbachev for hí time being a strong advocate of "Doi Moi" (renovation).
The politican has come from a bourgeois family. He was first involved in underground communist movement against French colonists at age 14, joining the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union.
Nguyen Van Linh got married to Ngo Thi Hue, a member of the Communist Party of Vietnam and a previous Vietnamese parliament delegate. The name Nguyen Van Linh came from his youngest son as a code name.
