Nguyen Trai was an illustrious Vietnamese Confucian scholar, best known as King Le Loi's close friend and principal advisor. He served as the chief advisor, strategist and propagandist for the rebel lead by Le Loi, who was a rebel, in 1417. He was a genius military tactician and a skilled poet, whose works varied in many areas ranging from literature, history, geography, ceremony and propriety. Most can be seen in Uc Trai's Poem Collection.
Nguyen Trai was born to a great though poor confucian scholar Nguyen Phi Khanh and a mandarin's daughter Tran Thi Thai with other 4 siblings. Under his father's view, the young boy proved to be good at literature, history, and politics at the age of 6, spreading his reputation all over the area.
During his short tragic life, Uc Trai has 5 concubines and 7 sons.
