Markus Persson, better known with the familiar name Notch or xNotch, is a Swedish video game programmer and designer who was the co-founder of the video game company, Mojang, together with Carl Manneh and Jakob Porser in late 2010. The primary base of Mojang was developed from Minecraft, a first-person sandbox video, which gained popularity in 2009 and attracted more notability in the video game industry. As the lead designer of Minecraft, he earned various awards and established more relations with the industry's figureheads. In November 2014, he left Mojang after its acquisition by Microsoft.
He started the first steps in programming on his father's Commodore 128 home computer at the age of seven. After that one year, he produced his own first game, a text-based adventure game. Then his profession as a game developer for King.com lasted for more than four years until 2009. After that, he worked for Jalbum and was also a co-founder of Wurm Online. Apart from his work, he created seven games for competitions in Java 4K Game Programming Contest.
He married Elin Zetterstrand on 13 August, 2011 but had divorced in the next year.
