Lee Chong Wei, a Malaysian Chinese professional badminton player, rose to fame for his ranking as the number one in the world's badminton for four consecutive years from 2008 to 2012. He had earned a number of gold medals for his victories at the 2006 Commonwealth Games in Melbourne and the 2010 Commonwealth Games in Delhi. For his world's top position with numerous awards throughout his illustrious career, he was described as a national hero by the Malaysian Prime Minister and becomes one of the all-time outstanding badminton talents.
At first, he was keen on basketball but his interest met the disapproval from his mother. Being influenced from his father's hobby, he started playing badminton since he was 11. He then received badminton training lessons from a local coach before being drafted into the national squad at the age of 17.
