Gackt is a Japanese musician, singer, songwriter and actor. Although debuting as a member of band Cains: Feel, he rose to popularity when began his solo career in 1999. For nine studio albums with forty-three singles released, he occupies the male soloist record for most top ten consecutive singles in Japan music history. Typically, his single Returner (Yami no Shūen) released on June 20, 2007 peaked at the Oricon charts. Also, he became the the first Japanese artist to release his music catalog on iTunes in October 2007. In addition to music career, he made his appearances in several films such as Moon Child, Bunraku and Fūrin Kazan.
His father, a music teacher primarily playing the trumpet, brought him to be familiar with brass instruments since he was a child. He also used to take in classical piano lessons. When growing up, he was inspired by Led Zeppelin's Stairway to Heaven and from then decided to master modern percussion and electric guitar. In the 1990s, he, together with a guitarist You Kurosaki, formed the band Cains:Feel before joining in the visual kei band Malice Mizer in 1995.
Both his parents was teachers. He has an older sister and a younger brother.
