Ellen DeGeneres is a successful American comedian, television host, actress, writer, and producer. She has hosted a number of talk shows and award shows like Grammy Awards, Academy Awards, and Primetime Emmys. In the mid-1990s, she emerged as a television star in the popular sitcom Ellen (1994 – 1998). 13 Emmys and 14 People's Choice Awards are the most outstanding among her achievements.
DeGeneres was the daughter of Elizabeth Jane "Betty" Pfeffer, a speech therapist, and Elliott Everett DeGeneres, an insurance agent. They got divorced when she was at the age of 15. Her older brother, Vance, is also a musician and producer. Before exposing to fame, she worked as a bartender, a waitress and a house painter.
In 1997, Ellen DeGeneres admitted to be a lesbian. She is now in marriage with Portia de Rossi since 2008. Prior to that, she dated the actress Anne Heche from 1997 to 2000 and the artist Alexandra Hedison from 2001 to 2004.
