Christina Aguilera was born in New York, to Xavier Aguilera and his wife, Shelly Moraine, a violinist and a pianist. Her father was said to abuse her and her mother. After her parents’ divorce, she moved to live with her grandmother and her mother. As a child, Aguilera showed a strong interest in music and locally was known as “ the little girl with the big voice “. She started singing at an early age by performing in local events and parties. When she was 8, she entered a talent competition, and won the first prize. At the age of 10, she auditioned for a position on The Mickey Mouse Club but did not meet its requirements.
