Chatumongol Sonakul is best known as a former Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Finance ( 1995 - 1997) and former Governor of the Bank of Thailand ( 1998 - 2001 ). He also was the vocal critic against Thaksin's populist job-creating policies. With his support for the Democrat Party, Chatumongdol was appointed for Chairman of the Board of the Bank of Thailand when this party controlled government in 2008.
Chatumongkol was born in one of Thailand's most noble families (Sonakul). Graduating from the two most honorable universities Cambridge University and Harvard University, he cameback Thailand and first worked as a civil servant in the Ministry of Finance.
Chatumongkol had married to Khunying Boonvipa. Now, they have three childrens. His eldest son Apimongkol Sonakul has worked for the Democrat Party as well.
