Named by Billboard as 2012's Rising Star, a Canadian singer and songwriter from Mission, British Columbia Carly Rae Jepsen came to prominence when she placed third in Canadian Idol season five's competition in 2007 and was a part of the Canadian Idol Top 3 concert tour. She gained further popularity with the release of Call Me May Be, stirring on YouTube by reaching 700 million views and peaked at No. 1 on both the US Billboard and Canadian Hot 100. Three Juno Awards and two Grammy Award nominations are considered as her most prestigious awards until now.
Born as the daughter of Alexandra and Larry Jepsen, Carly Rae Jepsen entered the Canadian College of Performing Arts in Victoria, British Columbia prior to auditioning for Canadian Idol. She concentrated on writing, recording and completing her band after finishing the Canadian Idol tour. Her debut single and another single, a cover of John Denver's song Sunshine on My Shoulders were released in 2008.
