Andy Lau was born to a fireman and raised in a nominally Buddhist household. He started his acting career when he signed up for the artist training program offered by TVB. He then appeared in a numerous films such as the 1982 TVB series The Emissary or the TVB wuxiaseries The Return of the Condor Heroes, etc.He also made a guest appearance in one of Susanna Kwan's music video and caught the eye of the manager Teddy Robin.
Andy Lau was married to Malaysian Chinese Carol Chu after 24 years of speculation over their relationship. The couple has their first daughter named Hanna.
